Loreto Customs

Date: April 11, 2013 I had nothing better to do than to wait. So I sat and watches the informal customs office deal with the passengers who came off the cruise ship. My nerves told me not to take the shot, but I did it anyway and suffered no consequences for it. This was taken […]

Sad Zocalo

Date: January 2015 We were running to get out of a storm when I stopped to take a photo of the flag. This man with a dirty, sweaty shirt passed by. I took the shot. It was not meant as a social comment.

Zocalo, Mexico City

Date: January, 2011 I have mixed feelings about having taken this shot. On one hand, I think it is a fine composition. The unconsciousness of the man is contrasted by the indifference of those passing by. On the other, I can’t help but feel that I turned a living person into an object. Does this […]

National Palace, Mexico City

Date: January 2001 I was a little scared photographing these two guards at the National Palace in Mexico City, so I sneaked up very quietly and took the shot. Cabrillo Coast HDR 1/28/2011 #4

Date: January 28, 2011 Now and then you are treated to a truly glorious display of light. The only thing to do is get out your camera and record. This winter’s day gave me one of those opportunities. I pulled out the Nikon D60 and created the framework for an HDR treatment of the scenery.

Matilija Poppy

Date: May 19, 2009 This was created using the Hockneyizer at Big Huge Labs. As Spring progresses, my anticipation for the blooming of the Matilija Poppies begins to grow. The huge white flowers were considered for the state flower of California but lost to the brilliant, orange California Poppies. You see them along the roadside […]

Signatures of Light #2

Date:February 14, 2015 I spent the winter experimenting, mostly with a technique called “Intentional Camera Movement”. This is what it sounds like: you take the camera and move it around. This particular image was creating as we were driving home. The jerks were creating by the vibrations of the car and my attempting to sign […]

Life boats

Date: December 7, 2014 It’s World Pinhole Day and I am out taking photos with a couple of cameras. I took this shot last December beside the replica of The Pilgrim — the ship that Dana sailed around the Cape Horn. The day was overcast but clear. I built the camera — a P-Sharan STD […]

World Pinhole Day

Today is World Pinhole Day and you can bet that I will be out using my two pinhole cameras — a P-Sharan STD and a Pinhole Blender — to capture what I see. Here is a pinhole that I took last December on Solstice: Date: December 21,2014 The Griffith Park Observatory is always a good […]
