Bambino

May 25, 2015 By JoelSax

In honor of Memorial Day, let me introduce you to one of my favorite early photos. I found this cherub in Colma’s Italian Cemetery. Darkness was falling, so I had to resort to a flash. (I had the bad habit of sleeping until 3 in the afternoon those days.) My flash failed me on the […]

Life boats

April 26, 2015 By JoelSax

Date: December 7, 2014 It’s World Pinhole Day and I am out taking photos with a couple of cameras. I took this shot last December beside the replica of The Pilgrim — the ship that Dana sailed around the Cape Horn. The day was overcast but clear. I built the camera — a P-Sharan STD […]

April 26, 2015 By JoelSax

Today is World Pinhole Day and you can bet that I will be out using my two pinhole cameras — a P-Sharan STD and a Pinhole Blender — to capture what I see. Here is a pinhole that I took last December on Solstice: Date: December 21,2014 The Griffith Park Observatory is always a good […]

Date: September 30, 2014 Every few years, I must take a long road trip. My favorite destinations all lie to the east of where I live: the deserts of Arizona, Utah, and Nevada are particular favorites. I select several cameras and films, then get in the car and head to the first of a string […]

There are many Weeping Angels scattered around the country. This one stands in Cypress Lawn Cemetery in Colma, California. Colma is unique in that it is […]

Bust

Date: June 17, 2013 Some of the garden art at Villa Vizcaya, Miami, Florida. Another Sprocket Rocket creation. Obviously a Roman empress or an Italian noblewoman who wanted to be thought of as one, but who?

View from our hotel room

March 25, 2015 By JoelSax

Date: June 13, 2013 We were in Miami for a Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance conference. By some stroke of luck, we were given a room on the 14th floor with this view of the city. I accidentally double-exposed it, but I don’t think it hurts the shot. The camera I used here was a […]

Newport Beach People

March 22, 2015 By JoelSax

Date: March 21, 2012 No one in bathing suits this day — wind was blowing hard. A week later, the climate was temperate. I love the afternoon colors. This is better than Golden Hour in my opinion.
